Pulau Langkawi (Langkawi Island)

Gunung Jerai
Standing over 1,000m, this is the highest point in the northern states, once being the landmark for seafaring traders. Legend has it that there is the "King with Fangs", who lives in the foothills of the mountain, once the site of the ancient kingdom. The nature trail to the summit gives spectacular views over the surrounding area.

Bujang Valley
Bujang Valley is the best archaeological site in Malaysia. At the foot of Gunung Jerai, the ancient Hindu-Buddhist kingdom ruled here and relics are on display at the Archaeological Museum. Artifacts include inscribed stone caskets, tools, ornaments, ceramics and Hindu icons. Over 50 ancient tombs have been uncovered here in recent years.

Hall of Drums (Balai Nobat)
Nobat is the term for instruments used by Royal Orchestra, comprising drums, gongs and a traditional flutes. These are now only used for special occasions only. The musical skills of the nobat are generally passed down through generations.

Masjid Zahir (State Mosque)
With black domes and stunning architecture, the Masjid Zahir is one of the most elegant mosques in Malaysia.

State Museum
A good example of the combination of Malay and Thai cultural heritage.

Pekan Rabu
Translated as "Wednesday Market," but popularity has extended business hours throughout the week with stalls offering handicrafts as well as excellent traditional food .

Pantai Merdeka (Merdeka Beach)
Merdeka Beach has good diving and fishing off the coast. Day trip's for both are around RM40 per person, including guides.
