Penang was first colonised by the British in the late 18th century and became an important trading post for ships from all over the empire.

The "capital" Georgetown is a vibrant city and one of the more popular travellers stops. Modern day Penang has a real Chinese feel and is linked to the mainland by the Penang Bridge, the longest in S.E.Asia.

Snake Temple
Once known as the Temple of the Azure Cloud, Snake Temple was founded as a place of worship for Taoists. You'll be amazed (and scared) by the sight of venomous vipers moving freely around the temple. These snakes have not been known to attack any visitors to the temple.
