Penang was first colonised by the British
in the late 18th century and became an important trading post for ships
from all over the empire.
The "capital" Georgetown is a
vibrant city and one of the more popular travellers stops. Modern day
Penang has a real Chinese feel and is linked to the mainland by the Penang
Bridge, the longest in S.E.Asia.
