Places of interest
Kampar
Kampar is situated in the famous Kinta
Valley, once the biggest producer of tin in the world. After the recession
of the 1980's, many companies closed, leaving Kampar like a ghost town.
Modern day Kampar is a fast growing township
thanks to the Commerce and Industrial sector. The population is a mix
of Malays, Chinese, Indian and many other minorities giving the town a
rich culture. Highlights include the variety of food available.
Festivals are celebrated in style here.
Chinese New Year is the big one in Kampar. During festivities you can
see lion-dances, fire-crackers and cultural shows.

Ipoh
Japanese Garden
This public park recreates the traditional Japanese garden with a small
Japanese house, a goldfish pond and a wooden bridge across a stream. The
grounds have a large variety of tropical flowers, plants and trees.
The park is open from 4.00pm - 8.00pm Mon - Fri and 9.00am - 8.00pm Sat
- Sun.
Hot Spring
At the foot of a limestone hill, Ipoh's hot spring is an invigorating
natural experience. The bath is open daily from 3.00pm to 12.00 midnight.
Perak Tong (Perak Cave)
This limestone cave temple has over 40 Buddhist statues, the most spectacular
being a 13m high sitting Buddha. A passage leads into the interior of
the cave. Mural paintings decorate the walls of the cave. After climbing
almost 400 steps, the cave opens up to give a great view of the surrounding
countryside.

Taiping
The name Taiping comes from the Chinese
word tai-peng, meaning "eternal peace". After the British made
this their administrative centre, Taiping started to grow into a bustling
community.
Taiping Lake Garden
Beautifully crafted to incorporate natural surroundings, this is an impressive
landscape. The waterfall here is great for swimming.
Perak Museum
This is Malaysia's oldest museum, opened in the early 20th century. It
has 4 main exhibition halls displaying zoological, historic, economic
and ethnological artifacts.
The museum opens daily, 9.30am - 12.00noon, 2.30pm - 5.00pm
Admission is free.
Taiping Zoo
Located at the Lake Garden, this is the oldest zoo in the country and
houses a variety exotic animals.
