Places of interest

Kuching
One of the more beautiful cities in S.E. Asia, Kuching has all the modern facilities but still keeps it's old world charm. Multi-storey buildings sit side by side with old colonial day shops and houses.

The Sarawak River
The life blood of life in Kuching, the beautifully landscaped esplanade is the main gather point for the locals. The sunsets over Matang mountains are quite awesome. A walk along the waterfront is the perfect place to start exploring Kuching.

Main Bazaar
Antique shops, travel agents and coffee shops now reside in this old commercial building.

Sarawak Museum
Beautiful gardens and parks surrounding the old town reservoir.

Belaga
This was the last major settlement on the Rejang river and here you can mix with all of the town's ethnic groups as they come to trade or meet friends. Tourists are still a novelty in Belaga so don't be surprised if you are invited to join the locals for a drink or social gathering. These are genuinely friendly people.

Kapit
Founded by the 2nd White Rajah as a garrison town to pacify the warring tribes. Today, Kapit is a vibrant commercial centre catering to the local communities.

Fort Sylvia
Built in 1880 by Rajah Charles Brooke, the fort houses a fine collection of ethnic arts and sketches and water colors of life on the river.

Miri
Sarawak's most popular tourist area. The town has a good nightlife and has regular visitors from neighboring Brunei. Miri is within easy reach of national parks, huge rivers, adventure travel and some of the best scuba diving in Borneo. Miri has good beaches and dozens of lively restaurants, pubs and bars.

Bario Highlands
Just a short boat ride along the Baram river from Miri.

Sibu
An old Chinese town, founded by immigrants at the turn of the century. In recent years Sibu has grown thanks mainly to the timber industry. The town's Chinese origins are highlighted by the beautiful seven-storey pagoda in Tua Pek Kong Temple. Sibu town centre has numerous small shops and a lively night market.
