After years of colonial rule from the Portuguese, Dutch and the British, Malaysia was given full independence in 1957 and has grown into one the more prosperous nations in the whole of Asia.

The cities are awash with the old and the new, architectural designs reflect the countries strong Islamic faith and beautiful mosques sit side-by-side with towering skyscrapers.

The nation's capital, Kuala Lumpur, is a vibrant city with muti-national corporations, legendary shopping and a buzzing nightlife. The famous Petronas Twin Towers stand guard over the metropolis and this landmark puts KL alongside any major city around the world.

Malaysia is blessed with some of the most naturally beautiful places in the world. The Cameron Highlands, tropical islands such as Tioman, Langkawi and Redang as well as some inhospitable jungle and rain forest make Malaysia unique.

Made up of two halves, Peninsular Malaysia extends down from Southern Thailand to Singapore and East Malaysia is made up of just two states, Sabah and Sarawak, covering the northern end of Borneo in the South-China Sea. Sandwiched between these two states is the Sultanate of Brunei.
